Summer In Jura – 4. Life In Clairvaux

Place du 8 Mai 1945

Clairvaux-les-lacs is a small French holiday resort near two lakes in Jura.

The day in Clairvaux starts with the visit to the boulangerie for fresh baguettes and croissants to be eaten with copious amounts of salty butter. The small CarreFour Express is the convenient grocery store. There is also an Aldi and a large Bi1.

The weekly market is on Wednesdays. It is a good place to get fresh vegetables, fruits and fish. There is a flea market on Sundays.

Two good wine shops sell predominantly Jura wines. Le Caveau Gourmand offers tastings.

The Lakes

There are two lakes in the outskirts of Clairvaux-lees-lacs – the smaller is 17.1 ha. and the lager, 56.5 ha. They have good beaches, lifeguards, diving, pedalo hire and catering.

The Adventure Park on Rte. de Saint-Claude is a fun place of both children and adults.

With the temperature in the 30s, BQ and alfresco dinning is the norm.

Eating Out

There are two restaurants and a pizza shop in Clairvaux. Le Bistrot Fontaine on Place du 8 Mai 1945 is the most popular and is always packed. It has a short but good wine list with wine available in bottles and by the glass. Prices are reasonable.

After Dinner

At the end of the day, there are glorious sunsets.
