Mount Lavinia beach was packed with New Year’s Eve revelers. The placid blue ocean lapped against the long crescent of golden sand. Fairylights glittered and fireworks exploded overhead. There was music and dancing and lots of eating and drinking. “People are out enjoying their new found freedom” a ‘Wealth Manager’ in a black silk shirt said, pulling the cork out of a magnum of Champagne de Vogue. Most of the ‘free people’ were drinking Scotch or Vodka with their spicy seafood and bottles of Beaujolais and a Barossa Shiraz called Cat Among The Pigeons remained untouched. “There is no economic crisis here” the Wealth Manager added. The celebrations continued in to the early hours of the morning.
