The morning was glorious. The vineyards on the hills that surround Kleinbottwar were bathed in sunlight.

We drove to Steinheim after breakfast to shop at the massive Kaufland Wine Shop. I purchased Riesling from the Kleinbottwar producer Graf Adelmann and Spateburgunder and Riesling from Rheingau producers Kunstler, Leitz, Kloster Eberbach & Schloss Vollrads.

In the early evening, we drove to the Schiller Gymnasium in the historic town of Marbach to watch a ‘Chorkonzert’.
Marbach, founded in the 8th century AD is the birthplace of Friedrich Schiller, to whom it owes the additional designation of Schiller City, which it has officially held since 2022. Schiller – playwright, poet, philosopher and historian is considered to be Germany’s most important classical playwright. The town is home to the Schiller National Museum, the German Literature Archive and the Modern Literature Museum.

After the concert, we had delightful dinner of grilled squid and Moussaka, washed down with chilled Assyrtiko at Hermes, a lovely basement Greek restaurant in Marbach before driving home.
